Workshop on Digital Technologies and Vulnerable Groups

This is a full day event with a mix of talks, panels and open discussions. The organisers’ focus will be on understanding the ways in which society’s vulnerable groups access and experience technology and how can current policy processes be re-designed to account for their diverse perspectives. The discussion will be under Chatham House rules. Agenda is below:

  • Opening Keynote on Digital Technologies and Human Rights by Salil Tripathi, PEN International’s Writers in Prison Committee

  • Expert Talks on Technology and Exclusions in the Digital Age by Prabir Purkayastha, NewsClick, on Technology and the People’s Right to Information by Nikhil Dey, MKSS and on Community Media in Rural Settings by Aaditeshwar Seth, IIT Delhi and GramVaani

  • Presentation on Data and Evidence on Gender Equality by Smitha Krishna Prasad, CCG-NLU

  • Panel discussion on Gender and Technology with Bishakha Datta from Point of View, Nandini Mazumder from CREA and Nayantara Ranganathan from Internet Democracy Project and moderated by Naveen Thayyil, IIT Delhi

  • Presentation on Participation of Persons with Disability in the Aadhaar Ecosystem by Smriti Parsheera, NIPFP

  • Panel discussion on Impact of Technology on Persons with Disability with George Abraham from Score Foundation, Nipun Malhotra from Nipman Foundation, PVM Rao from IIT Delhi and moderated by Faiza Rahman, IIT Delhi

  • Closing Keynote on Privacy and Personality by Elizabeth Coombs, UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Privacy Thematic Action Group on ‘Privacy and Personality’
